Major: Chemical Engineering
Minor: Mathematics
Graduation: May 2020

A little bit about me: I was inspired to major in chemical engineering when I fell in love with engineering through a FIRST robotics team in high school while also taking a general chemistry course and being intrigued by that. I worked my way up to project manager of that team by the end of high school, and I continue to mentor the team to this day.

What I like about ChemE Car: One of the things I love about Chem-E Car is its ability to bring together a group of students with, not only the same major, but also similar goals and interests. The team brings a personal and social level to the relations with colleagues that classes and other organization don’t.

My goals as an engineer: As I am still deciding between going into the industry or going to graduate school, I have different ideas of what I would pursue with each path. If going into industry, I plan to do process engineering, but if I choose to go on to grad school, I would want to focus on research into the conservation and containment of energy.

A little bit about me: I am very passionate about environmental sustainability, and I am involved in environmental organizations on campus. I chose chemical engineering because it would allow me to work on environmental projects. I do research with fuel cells and batteries, both important to implementing renewable energy infrastructure.

What I like about ChemE Car: I like the ChemE car provides an opportunity to work on a project with a team. We can apply what we’ve learned in classes while also having a lot of creative freedom. I also love going to the conferences to show what we’ve done and learn from the other teams.

My goals as an engineer: I plan to pursue a PhD in chemical engineering this fall to continue working on research related to renewable energy.

A little bit about me: I like to research interesting topics and do DIY projects and science experiments. Recently, I’ve gotten really into hydroponics. I’m currently growing lettuce in my apartment hydroponically. I also have plans on making some really nice cutting boards and other small woodworking projects. When I’m not working on my projects, I like to listen to jazz and play board games with friends.

What I like about ChemE Car: I like researching new and interesting ways to approach the competition. This club allows me to apply the theory I’ve learned in class in a practical matter. ChemE car is also a great way to network and meet new people.

My goals as an engineer: I want to work as a process safety engineer. After doing a co-op, I saw how important safety is in the manufacturing world, and I would like to be a part of it. I want to be part of the reason the people at a plant go home in the same condition they arrived.

A little bit about me: I love to cook and try new, creative recipes. I also like to go to concerts. I pretty much listen to everything, but I really enjoy seeing my favorite bands play live. I was inspired to be a chemical engineer by hearing people from industries talk about the flexibility of the discipline; they came in working as chemical engineer, but were able to do more than just that.

What I like about ChemE Car: ChemE car takes a practical look of what chemical engineers can do. It goes beyond what is taught in class, and pushes me to think outside the box for design ideas and how to get the car running effectively. The team effort promotes a wonderful working environment that makes me want to come back and learn more about chemical applications.

My goals as an engineer: I hope to work for an industry that ensues green engineering. I want to help innovate and create better quality items that would benefit the public in more ways than one. I want to be constantly challenged in my work and hope to try new things everyday.

A little bit about me: I enjoy listening to and playing music. I play guitar, piano, and trumpet. I also enjoy film. I am huge Tennessee sports fan particularly, the Nashville Predators and Tennessee Titans. I also am passionate about things from various topics that range from history and culture to science and technology.

What I like about ChemE Car: I enjoy the opportunity to apply materials I am learning in class to something concrete and fun. In addition, the aspect of working together to determine a solution to various challenges is rewarding.

My goals as an engineer: I currently intend to graduate with a bachelor’s degree and go into industry upon graduation. Although I am still considering the possibility of going to graduate school and pursuing a PhD after working in industry for a few years.
