What we do

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers, AIChE, annually hosts both regional and national conferences for students and professionals alike. A major part of each conference revolves around the Chem-E Car competition, in which multiple universities compete to demonstrate their ability to apply knowledge outside the classroom. Student teams have the autonomy to construct a car using a variety of chemical reactions, materials, and methods that meet all the design and safety requirements held by the AIChE.

Design

Teams build cars that run and stop off a chemical reaction. These cars must be small, able to carry a load of 0-500 grams, and must be able to travel up to 100 meters.

Safety

Working with chemicals comes with inherent safety concerns. The job of the team is to mitigate any risks through design of the car, proper handling of chemicals, and always wearing proper protection gear.

Fundraising

No project can be finished without proper funding. That is why the team works hard to raise funds to cover costs of building the car and going to the competition.

We are proud to have a large team with members from all around the US. We believe diversity and collaboration are integral parts of team work.
